
New Hampshire Water Conference:
Planning is underway for the third annual New Hampshire Water Conference to be held in 2009. Please check the conference web site for updates.
The Center for the Environment’s staff organized the 2nd Annual New Hampshire Water Conference held on April 16, 2008 at the Grappone Center in Concord, NH. This year's theme was “Science, Policy, and Management of Water in New Hampshire” with sessions on water, land use, and policy; groundwater withdrawal issues and management; water supply: resource assessment, usage, and needs; and flood forecasting, planning, and response. The conference drew 170 people, including researchers, legislators, water system operators, land use planners, and government officials. Evaluations completed by conference participants indicated that the day provided useful and relevant information.

5th Annual Integrated Design, Integrated Development Conference: In partnership with the New Hampshire Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIANH), The Jordan Institute, and Granite State Landscape Architects, the Center for the Environment sponsored the 5th Annual Integrated Design, Integrated Development Conference on July 17-18, 2008. This two day event brought 150 design, construction, and real estate professionals and their suppliers and financiers to campus for presentations and tours illustrating the value of, and techniques for, multidisciplinary design processes that produce efficient, cost-effective, and delightful buildings, grounds, communities, and landscapes. 13th New Hampshire Lakes Congress and Annual Meeting:
On June 17, 2006, the Center for the Environment hosted the New Hampshire Lakes Association (NHLA) annual Lakes Congress at the Boyd Science Center at Plymouth State University. The Lakes Congress offered workshops and presentations focused on increasing threats and potential solutions to the successful management of New Hampshire’s lakes and ponds. The NHLA is a statewide, nonprofit, member-supported organization dedicated to protecting New Hampshire's lakes, which are integral to the quality of life and economic health of the State.
Steve Kahl from the Center for the Environment gave a plenary talk "NH Lakes: Increasing threats and the need for incentive-based solutions," (PPT) and Mary Ann McGarry, Associate Professor of Science Education, presented a workshop titled "Involving Youth in Lake Stewardship."

2005 Squam Watershed Workshop
In June 2005, the Center for the Environment hosted a workshop to review past research at Squam Lakes, determine data gaps and future research needs to enhance the stewardship of the lakes and the watershed. The workshop brought together stakeholders involved in the Squam Lakes region and others involved in the future of New Hampshire lakes.

Annual Meeting of the New England Chapter of NALMS (NEC NALMS):
The Center for the Environment hosted the 2005 annual meeting of the New England Chapter of the North American Lake Management Society. NALMS is the largest organization in North American that focuses solely on the freshwater environment. Over 150 people attended from all New England States.
