Inclement Weather Plan

The decision to move the commencement ceremony indoors due to inclement weather will be posted by 6:00 a.m. Saturday, May 17th. It is critical that you check the PSU Web site, call the PSU Storm Line (603) 535-3535, or the PSU operator (603) 535-5000 before you leave home to confirm the status of the commencement ceremony.

We will make every attempt to hold the ceremony outdoors. If the weather forecast calls for light rain or drizzle, please be prepared to stay outdoors. We will only implement our Inclement Weather Plan and move indoors if pouring rain is expected.

Picking up Tickets

Seniors may pick up their inclement weather tickets at Seniors Day or at the Registrar’s office, from March 24–May 2. The Registrar’s Office is open from 8 a.m.—4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Ask for Brenda Clayton.

PSU Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony Inclement Weather Plan Overview:

  • If the commencement ceremony Inclement Weather Plan is implemented on commencement day, the ceremonies will be moved to these three indoor locations on the PSU campus—Foley Gymnasium inside the PE Center, the Hartman Union Building (the HUB), and Hanaway Theatre in the Silver Center for the Arts.

  • Students will report directly to the indoor location they have selected. Tickets are color coded.

  • Due to the space limitations of the indoor facilities, each graduating senior will be provided four tickets for family members or friends to attend the indoor ceremonies in the same facility as the student. The tickets will be color coded and labeled for the specific venue chosen by the senior. Tickets are REQUIRED to gain access to the indoor ceremony venues. Overflow space will be available for each of the indoor venues.

  • Tickets are needed only if the ceremony is held indoors as there is no limit to the number of family and friends who can attend outdoor commencement ceremonies.


Venue assignments

  • Graduating seniors who are qualified and are registered to participate in the commencement ceremonies will have an opportunity over the coming weeks to choose one of the three venues named above. Seniors who have not registered to participate must do so at the registrar’s office.

  • Students who have not selected a venue or ordered their Inclement Weather tickets can do so in-person at Seniors Day on March 7. Students must select their preferred venue wisely because their original selection cannot be changed.

  • Once students receive their Inclement Weather tickets they should keep them safe. There will be no replacement for lost tickets and no one will be admitted to the indoor ceremony without one.

  • If there is any question about weather conditions for commencement day, be sure to check the PSU Storm Line at 535-3535, the PSU operator at 535-5000 or check the Commencement Web site before leaving home so you are aware of the location to proceed to.

This is a lot of information for a plan that in all likelihood will not need to be implemented. But we want to be sure students and their families are aware of the process should we be forced to move the ceremony indoors.
