One of the most cherished and influential films of the silent era. Its roots lie in the aftermath of WWI and the German national consciousness at that time. Caligari's Expressionist style ultimately led to the dark shadows and sharp angles of the film noir urban crime dramas of the 1940s, many of which were directed by such German émigrés as Billy Wilder and Robert Siodmak.
The DME, formed in Boston in 1999, is comprised of Brendon Wood, Jonah Rapino, and Tim Nylander. The DME has been on numerous tours playing soundtracks for silent film. It has performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Balboa Theater in San Francisco and the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh. The DME recently completed a full-fledged tour of Europe with performances of “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde” in Spain, Netherlands, France, UK, Germany, and Denmark.
