Web Communications Designer

Plymouth State University (PSU) is accepting applications for a Web Communications Designer. The successful candidate will design, produce and maintain University sub-sites and multimedia in cooperation with the Web Communications Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate for this position will be primarily responsible for maintaining existing sites and developing new sites from scratch by optimizing architecture, content, and search parameters while ensuring optimal usability and accessibility for multiple audiences. Additional responsibilities will include:
- Migrating content from legacy sites to CMS based pages/sites.
- Responding to technical support inquiries, identifying problem areas, developing solutions and escalating to Web Communications Manager as appropriate.
- Communicating web communication strategies and purposes to both non-technical and technical constituents to ensure reliability and consistency of web sites.
- Researching and implementing web solutions for large multi-audience web sites.
- Managing daily operations of projects as assigned which may include development and maintenance of project management information and documentation.
- Training and mentoring Web publishers as necessary.
- Facilitating and conducting cross-browser, cross-platform testing.
- Will perform other related projects and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Graphic Arts, Computer Science, Communications or related field and two years of professional experience in a web production environment, Associate's degree and four years of professional experience in a web production environment or combination of related education and related professional experience in a web production environment equal to six years.
- Solid knowledge XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, as well as development tools such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Fireworks and Flash.
- Ability to develop and test web content constructed with W3C compliant code and cross platform and cross browser compatibility.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage mulitple tasks and priorities.
- Effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
- Understanding of web additional web standards such as PHP, XML, RSS, and others.
- Experience in higher education.
- Ability to work with a wide range of constituents, including novices, IT and communications staff, and senior leadership.
- Ability to work independently under limited supervision and as a part of a highly structured team
- Experience incorporating social features into Web sites, as well as media communities such as YouTube, Flickr, and FaceBook.
- Customer service experience.
- Familiarity with content management systems.
