Residential Life strives to support conditions where students can live, learn, and grow together—but we understand that not all roommates will be a perfect match.  We start each year with roommate agreements—a 2-part process involving a self-reflection about living expectations, followed by a meeting with all roommates facilitated by a member of the Residential Life staff.  If a student is struggling with their roommate(s)/living situation, they can reach out to their Community Advisor (“CA”-student/peer staff) or Community Director (“CD”-professional staff).  The staff member will work with your student, facilitate a mediation, and assist should a change need to be made.

Often, there may not be conflict in the room, but students will make friends and seek to live together elsewhere after they are assigned—or realize they just may want to live alone.  When this occurs, they have the option to move into an available space (we call this a vacancy) or add their names to the waitlist for a fully open room to move into.
REsidential Life Forms & Policies

PSU Dining recognizes that sometimes there isn’t anything like a home cooked meal and for some, the transition to college life can be difficult. We strive to ease that transition with the quality of food and offerings available at all meal periods. We truly want all guests to have an enjoyable dining experience every time they walk through the doors.

With over seven stations to choose from, there really is something for everyone to enjoy. Here is a list of our stations to review with your student:

  • FYUL: Our wellness station that is free of all nine major allergens and gluten. All food is chef prepared at the station to avoid cross contamination.
  • Chef’s Table: Our Chef’s Table provides guests with daily, made-to-order options, breakfast all day, and now offers avoiding-gluten meal options.
  • Homestyle: Daily cuisine specials are offered from all over the world and includes vegan and vegetarian options.
  • Grille: For guests craving some good ol’ comfort food they can find fresh-made burgers, hotdogs, chicken tenders, fries, and daily specials such as a Cuban panini, Rueben sandwich, or quesadilla.
  • Pizza and Pasta: This line offers two homemade pasta options, and all the fresh, handmade pizza you could want. (Avoiding-gluten options can be found on our FYUL line.) In the evening, guests can create their own pasta dish with various toppings and sauces.
  • Soup and Salad: Features two daily soup options, a sandwich making station (including a panini press), and a salad bar with fruit, yogurt, an assortment of salad ingredients, condiments, and dressings.
  • Dessert: Filled with baked-daily cookies, brownies, muffins, pastries, cakes, and more, alongside our Gilford’s ice cream cooler.

In addition to all the above stations, Prospect Dining Hall has many other features such as a hot sauce bar, spice rack, non-dairy milk alternatives, bagel, toast, & cereal station, and strive to add new features every semester.

We invite students and families that express concern over meal offerings to speak with a PSU Dining manager and/or Amanda Grazioso, Director of Student Life and Dining Services, to discuss options and how the dining team could accommodate.

PSU Dining is happy to accommodate guests that have specialized nutrition concerns including dietary restrictions, severe food allergies, or celiac disease and require food and service to be clear of allergen cross-contact. A dedicated area at Prospect Dining Hall called FYUL, our wellness station, is free of all nine major allergens and gluten.  In addition, our Chef’s Table station can provide grilled food options that avoid gluten. We offer a variety of vegetarian and vegan options at many of our stations daily and welcome guests to provide feedback for additional offerings.

PSU Dining realizes how seriously food allergies, specific dietary restrictions and special diets can affect the quality of our students’ campus experience. Students can contact our Registered Dietitian Alyssa Fernandes at alyssa.fernandez@compass-usa.com or request to speak to our Director of Residential Life & Dining Services, Amanda Grazioso to discuss any concerns or special dietary needs.

Your student should contact the Office of the Academic Student Advocate in Frost House. Based on the specific issues your student is facing, our Academic Student Advocate can offer advice and support, help your student communicate with faculty, and facilitate connecting with other appropriate campus support services.
