Subject-Area Tutoring
- is offered for most introductory courses (subject to tutor availability) except math courses. Math assistance is available through the Math Activities Center in Hyde 351.
- is provided either on a one-to-one basis or in small groups
- is open to all undergraduate students on campus
- has additional hours available for SSS (TRIO) eligible students.
If you would like assistance with most introductory level, non-math courses, please make an appointment with a PASS counselor by calling the office at 535-2270 or stopping by the PASS office in The Lamson Learning Commons.
Description
- Peer tutors provide academic support either individually or in small groups.
- Tutors are encouraged to help their students become independent learners by using active study strategies.
- Tutors work very hard to establish a positive learning environment for their peers.
- Tutoring sessions are offered through PASS for most introductory level courses except math courses.
- Math tutors are available through the Math Activities Center in Hyde 351.
Hours
Tutoring sessions are held at the PASS office in The Lamson Learning Commons, Monday – Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and off site by appointment.
Responsibilities
- Complete a log for each session you hold.
- Communicate with your students on a weekly basis.
- Communicate with the tutor coordinator on a bi-weekly basis or whenever a need occurs.
- Conduct yourself in a professional manner.
- Keep all information confidential.
Qualifications
- You should be a Plymouth student interested in helping his/her peers.
- You should have a 3.0 GPA.
- You need to be approved by a faculty member.
