Honors Program Information

Honors Program General Information

  • Who is eligible for the Honors Program?
    • Current Students
If you are a current matriculated (degree-seeking) student and have the required GPA for the credits you’ve earned, you are eligible to take one or two of the courses being offered next fall:
      • 1-23 earned hours must have a 3.3 GPA or higher
      • 24-47 earned hours must have a 3.4 GPA or higher
      • 48 earned hours or higher must have a 3.5 GPA or higher
      Newly Admitted Students
Each year about 75 newly admitted students, identified as among the best in their high school class, are selected by the Honors Council to participate. A combination of GPA, SAT or ACT test scores and class rank is used in this determination.
  • How are honors courses different than regular offerings?
    • Honors sections are not intended to be more work-intensive than regular sections. Rather, students in honors sections indicate that low class enrollment (20-25 maximum), results in a high level of discussion, collaborative academic challenges and the development of closer intellectual relationships in the classroom.
  • How do I earn the Honors Program notation for my transcript?
    • Students completing two honors sections during an academic year and achieving a 3.00 overall grade point average (GPA) receive the transcript designation “First Year Honors” and/or “Second Year Honors.”
  • How do I register for honors courses?
    • Simple! Use the Honors Program Offerings link to select the course(s) you wish to register for and be sure to write down the Course Reference Number (CRN).

Once you receive notification that you can register on-line in myPlymouth or when your pre-assigned registration time begins, simply use the CRN to register for the course(s) in the registration system.

Please note: Only students who receive notification of their eligibility may register for honors courses. All other students will receive a registration error when trying to add them.
