Class agent Patricia Dubeau Harlow writes that the class of ’44 held its 62nd reunion in July 2006 by cruising on Squam Lake. Following the cruise we all met at Lucille Nutting Gilman’s cottage in Meredith for lunch and a social hour. The group also included Ruth Dolby Young, Joyce Breck Young, Marion Richardson Pounder, Leah Gray, Laura Pike DeGoosh, Shirley Sullivan Finnigan and daughter Leslie, Fernande Stanford and daughter Christy, Patricia Dubeau Harlow, with daughter Lesley and son-in-law Mitchell, and Jean Bolton Landroche. It was a beautiful day and we learned how active and interesting life really can be after 80. Shirley Sullivan Finnigan and her daughter were staying at Wentworth by the Sea, but were meeting Fernande and her daughter at the Inn in Ashland following the reunion. Shirley stayed extra days so they could enjoy the “North Country,” which is so different from Florida. Ruth Dolby Young shared that her grandson, Jesse, took charge of the annual fireworks display on Stinson Lake. Joyce Breck Young has been organist for her church in Warren for 21 years. On their trip to Curaçao, Lucille Nutting Gilman and her husband, Bob, visited an emu farm. She was really impressed with the colorful homes. Leah told us the origin of Draper & Maynard’s “Lucky Dog”: Ed Maynard’s (remember him?) favorite pet. Fernande Stanford is enjoying life in the thriving city of Burlington, Vt. She plays a lot of poker and penny ante (got her started in PSC playing whist!). Laura Pike DeGoosh is very busy with trips and keeping up with her grand children. One plays field hockey for Mt. Holyoke and another is Aquatic Biologist for the state of Rhode Island. Marion Richardson Pounder has been named an honored alumna of Pinkerton Academy. She was their first female trustee, an educator, a Hall of Fame member, and actively involved with Pinkerton’s transition from a small school to a large prestigious one. (Good work!) Pat Dubeau Harlow recently returned from India and looks forward to a trip to Greece in the fall. She takes courses in art and music at Litchfield Community Center and visits her children in Kennebunkport and New York. Next year’s reunion will be on a Saturday, July 7 with plans progressing.

Drina Perkins Blanchette writes: Well, what we have been anticipating is now over, our 60th, remember? How time flies! It was so good to see those who were able to make it, which are Elsie R. Ruston, Virginia Hallisey, Cynthia Philbrook Harmon, Phyllis Gordon Miller, Ruth Gilman Bolduc, Marion Lucy Warren, Virginia Deachman Dearborn, Pauline “Pinky” Tillotson Cole, Beverley Sanborn Minot, Dorothy Libbey Jesseman, Barbara Gove Pike, and myself. We certainly hoped all was well with all you who were unable to attend. Most of us were there just for the day and the time went by fast. After our meeting with Angela Matthews, who explained what was happening with our money, we went on to a lovely luncheon. Many tributes were given to Norton Bagley, whom I’m sure you all remember. Also, since Dr. Wharton was retiring, some noteworthy gifts were presented to him. He has been very good for the college, or should I say university. After the luncheon we had our picture taken and then headed for home or a tour of the new grounds of the University. Phyllis Gordon Miller (Fee) came the farthest, arriving Friday night. She was treated royally by the undergraduates. We’re sure she filled them in with some great stories. We’re in a quandary about where and when we’ll meet again—any ideas? Many thanks to all who helped to make our 60th memorable! Until next time, fond memories.
