Hey classmates, remember Faustie’s, Officer Smart, the Three R’s? The “Rock,” Ronnie’s, Russell House? J.J. Newbury, the Pemi, moving the books to the new Lamson Library? The Snack Bar (the closest thing we had to a student union), dressing for Sunday dinner at Mary Lyon Hall-guys and girls together, Friday night dances in the “little gym”? The Beatles, the day Kennedy was shot-memorable times.
A group of us are thinking ahead to our reunion in 2007. Forty years-how did that happen?
Earlier this year, John Daly (social science ed), Carl McAllister (PE teacher cert), Angela Matthews (director of development) and Carol Flate Gerken (elementary ed) met to brainstorm ideas for our upcoming reunion and our class gift. As we poured over our senior yearbooks, there were lots of laughs and shared memories.
With that as a beginning, we put together a group of fellow classmates that represent different majors. We asked them to personally contact folks and encourage them to plan ahead and save the date for Alumni Weekend in June 2007. Who said, “Yes!”? Margaret Gould Westcott, Adrienne Stevens, Bob Greenwood, Carl McAllister, Doug Jack, Jim Durkee, John Daly, Kathy Leith Almazol, Kiki Goranitis Harrington and Charlie Dyer. All volunteers are welcome!
So when the call comes, rack your brain, look at your yearbook and join in the fun as we look forward to reconnecting. Better yet, when you read this, start by logging on to the PSU Web site, call friends you keep in touch with and let the Alumni Office (800-772-2620) know you are out there and excited to begin thinking of reconnecting with friends from the past.
Several of us met in August for a tour of the campus and planning session. If you have not been back to Plymouth State in the recent past, you are in for a treat. As a small regional university, Plymouth is a gem. In the years since our graduation, improvements to the existing buildings, the addition of new facilities and the “greening” of the landscape are immediately apparent, while the look and feel of the campus remain true to our experiences-small and personal.
By now you should have received the survey from the Alumni Office. If you haven’t already returned it, please do so right away. Tell us about yourselves, your families, careers and just what you would like the Alumni Weekend to include.
With advance planning, we have almost three years to create a class legacy that makes a difference in the lives of students. You remember …
Your input is important to us. So let us hear from you!
Your PSU friends,
Margaret, Adrienne, Bob, Carl, Doug, Jim, John, Kathy, Kiki, Charlie and Carol
