Over a year of work by Information Technology Services and the Office of Public Relations culminated over Memorial Day Weekend with the launch of new versions of the University’s main Web site and the myPlymouth portal. The new sites benefit from a rich color palette, user-friendly design and improved customization as well as simplified navigation.
The process of redesigning plymouth.edu, the University’s main public Web site, began in early 2006 with the intent of more effectively representing the University’s identity and rich community to prospective students and their families. About 30 departments were included in the initial launch of the new site, with the remaining departments to be incorporated into the new design over the next year.
The improved site features relevant and timely information on the home page with easy access to popular information. Throughout the site are expanded sections on the history of the University, visitor information, a focus on the students, faculty, staff, and community, and a new photo gallery. In addition, the campus event calendar ThisWeek@PSU, which launched earlier this year, is prominently displayed.
MyPlymouth, the University’s portal for alumni, faculty, staff, and students continues the virtual ability to stay connected with improved channels including calendar, WebCam, announcements, events, and polls. A new Group Activity Channel allows alumni to instantly see if any of the numerous alumni groups have had recent postings or changes. Additional services, such as the new alumni senior role, and the integrated online career networking services, will be released throughout the summer and into the fall.—Kimberly Accorsi
