How Do You Feel?
by Joe Long, Alumni Director
How do you feel about your time at Plymouth State? Was it well spent? Did you get all you could out of your experience here? Did Plymouth provide you with the skills and education you needed to be successful? My hope is that you answer “yes” to each of these questions. One of the most important things we can do is prepare our students for success in life after Plymouth State, success in both the workplace and their day-to-day lives. By allowing our students to grow and expand their comfort zones, we prepare them for life’s unexpected challenges and opportunities. We know we do a good job of this because we survey our graduating senior class and our recent alumni to get feedback about their experiences as students and how Plymouth State has prepared them for the “real world.”
How do you feel about your experiences as an alumna/us of Plymouth State? Have we continued to give you opportunities for professional development and networking? Has being a Plymouth alum opened doors that may have otherwise been closed to you? Has being an alum made you feel proud? Is your degree worth more today than it was when you graduated? My hope is that you can also answer “yes” to these questions as well, but I don’t actually know.
We hear anecdotal evidence every day that many alumni feel great about Plymouth State University and are proud to be alumni, but we have no real data that lets us be sure. Well, all this is about to change.
Soon, the Office of Alumni Relations and the PSU Alumni Association will be conducting an alumni attitude study, which we believe will greatly benefit the alumni association, the University and, most of all, you—our alumni. We’ll be asking for feedback on issues such as how we communicate with you, the value of your Plymouth State degree, what gets you (or keeps you from being) involved as an alum, your image of Plymouth State today, and what you think about our alumni programs. This is a very large undertaking for the alumni association and PSU, but it is also an important one for everyone involved. We need to know what you want and need. We also want to know what we’re doing well and where we may be falling short of your expectations.
This information will help us provide a better alumni experience for you, one that transcends the “old school” image of “All alumni want is for us to throw parties at Homecoming” to a reality that shows the lifelong relationship between Plymouth State and its alumni, a relationship of education, professional development, networking and support for each other.
Thank you in advance for helping us with this important step in the continuing evolution of the relationship alumni have with Plymouth State. Please know how important your participation is to us.
Best wishes and I look forward to hearing from you.
