Plymouth State is one of the best colleges and universities in the nation for winter recreation, and the whole campus is invited to celebrate during this week’s Winter Carnival. Mother Nature looks like she’s all in for this year’s event, with plenty of snow predicted midweek to grace Wednesday’s events at Waterville Valley Resort. All are invited to enjoy Alpine and Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, snow tubing, fat biking, ice sculpture, a cookout, and live music.
Clay Harbart ’19 is one of the organizers of this year’s Ski Day. He used to ski a lot when he was younger but hasn’t in the past few years, so he has made a special effort to make Ski Day a non-skier celebration as well. “Aside from the $5 meal passes with great food, I am personally excited about our deejay this year, DJ Atorr, who is a PSU alum,” says Harbart. “Our students are drawn to electronic dance music but he also caters to all by incorporating rock and oldies hits in his tracks. Our non-skiers can grab some food, a drink, sit by the fire, or dance to our live music.”
For those who prefer to stay on campus, the Fireplace Lounge is hosting several activities, and a hypnotist will cast his spell in the Silver Center on Valentine’s Day. The week concludes with the “Boogie Boardin’” Rail Jam (this year’s theme is “tropical!”) at the Ice Arena on Friday. The weeklong series of events is a collaborative effort by PSU students, staff, and faculty, so do your part, get out there, and enjoy this signature PSU event. ■ Peter Lee Miller
