Amin Kalaf, textile design (detail)

This exhibition will explore aspects of textile history, function, and design. Making textile is a basic human activity that spans virtually every culture and civilization, yet it is also among the most elaborate of artistic undertakings. Rich with symbolic and functional history, the textile industry was the first industry to be fully mechanized in Western Europe and helped usher in the Industrial Revolution. Strong economic pressure and market demand have remained integral to the process of constant upgrade in technologies for design and production of textiles. The exhibition features an array of works by textile designer Amin Kalaf.
