Caps Ridge Hike, Jeff Lougee

July 30, 2018 @ 5:00 am - 11:00 am

Alpine plant communities represent a small fraction – less than one percent – of NH’s land area, and harbor the greatest concentration of rare plant species in the State. Join Jeff Lougee, the Director of Stewardship & Ecological Management for The Nature Conservancy in New Hampshire, for a hike up the Caps Ridge Trail into the alpine zone of the Presidential Range, one of the most scenic areas of the White Mountain National Forest. Participants will learn about the fragile plant communities, and some of the unique adaptations plants have to survive the harsh conditions of the alpine zone.

Participants should come prepared for a strenuous five mile round trip hike to the summit of Mt. Jefferson. Please bring food, water, sturdy hiking shoes, warm layers, and rain/wind protection.  Meet at the Caps Ridge parking area on Jefferson Notch Road at 9am. The hike will begin at 9:15am.
