Creating the White Mountain National Forest, 1913-2018: From Idea to Reality
July 31, 2018 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
FreeWhen the Weeks Act was passed in 1911, it is unlikely that anyone envisioned the White Mountain National Forest that millions of visitors enjoy today throughout the year. Creating the forest as we know it was a complex process that took many years, even after its formal establishment in 1918.
Come and learn about the remarkable transformation of the White Mountain regions landscape from a patchwork of hard-scrabble farms and forest lands to a national Forest Reserve. Presented by Rebecca W. S. More, Ph.D, Visiting Scholar, Dept. of History, Brown University.
