Cultivating Resilience: A broad perspective on trauma, resilience, and early childhood mental health

This lecture will explore various perspectives on resilience, trauma, and trauma prevention. Dr. Bayrak will approach these topics through a comprehensive lens, incorporating neurobiology, child development, physical and mental health, culture, and community. Her talk will emphasize the importance of early childhood and early relationships in cultivating resilience, and she will reflect on how storytelling can aid in meaning-making and fostering resilience at both individual and community levels. Dr. Bayrak will also discuss the story behind ‘Echoes of Resilience,’ future prospects, and how we can collectively work toward building resilient communities.
Dr. Beril Bayrak Bulucu is an experienced and board-certified pediatrician with over 20 years of expertise in primary care. She has a strong background in Infant mental health and is endorsed as an Infant Mental Health Clinical Mentor (Massachusetts Association of Infant Mental Health). Additionally, Dr. Bayrak Bulucu serves as NBO training faculty at Boston Children’s Hospital. She provides training programs, mentorship, and reflective supervision in Infant Mental Health nationally and internationally.
Dr. Bayrak Bulucu completed her medical school training in Istanbul, Turkey, and went on to pursue a pediatric residency at the Long Island College Hospital-Beth Israel combined program in New York City. She attended a fellowship in Pediatric Hematology Oncology at Schneider Children’s Hospital in Long Island, New York for one year. Dr. Bayrak Bulucu completed a post-graduate fellowship training at UMass Medical School in 2017. Dr. Bayrak Bulucu has completed training as a Circle of Security Parenting Facilitator and is trained in NMT level 1 trauma model. She is currently undergoing training in Video Intervention Therapy and is enrolled in the Neurosequential Model program at the Child Trauma Academy.She has presented at several national and international meetings on perinatal mental health, trauma prevention, pediatrics Early childhood mental health integration. She has been a cofacilitator for Infant Mental Health Special Interest Groups through AAP Early Childhood Council. Dr. Bayrak Bulucu’s affiliations include the Brazelton Institute at Boston Children’s Hospital, New Beginnings NGO, the Massachusetts Association for Infant Mental Health, and the University of Massachusetts Boston’s Parent Infant Mental Health Post Graduate Certificate Fellowship Program., American Academy of Pediatrics , AAP Early Childhood committee Infant Mental Health Interest Group.
