Timothy Hutchings: Objects and Non-Objects

FEBRUARY 1 – MARCH 4, 2006

  • Karl Drerup Art Gallery
  • Opening event February 1, 4 – 6 p.m

Through a combination of earnest quotation and outright deception, artist Timothy Hutchings creates artworks that play between the realms of historical object and contemporary art dialogue. Hutchings seeks form and function outside the art world and then diverts it to his own needs, extracting useful elements and then reinserting meaning into the systems from which he so shamelessly borrows. These objects and non-objects that Hutchings produces often conceal themselves within the quoted dialogues, comenting on themselves with low humor and uncomfortable contrivance.
