The First 100 Years

Celebrating the Centennial of the White Mountain National Forest

Today, the White Mountain National Forest is an integral part of the regional landscape, but it took years of advocacy, negotiation, collaboration, partnership, and persistence to make it so.  The concept of stewardship lies in the heart of the creation and continued conservation of the Forest.

Those who love the mountains, who live here and make their living in and from the mountain forests, and those who visit for soul-restoring time in nature all depend on public lands. Support and activities for the past 100 years has come from people from disparate backgrounds and expertise who work together because they see the Forest landscape, its clean water and air, as valuable to the health and well-being of northern New England.

WMNF Timeline
