George Frederick Handel’s Water Music had its premiere in the summer of 1717, with musicians playing from barges on the River Thames. This summer, the Festival will be presenting selections from this most popular work, indoors on this program and, bringing music to nature, outdoors from a barge anchored in a cove on Squam Lake. The program also features a new piano concerto by James Stephenson, co-commissioned by the Festival and premiered by Jeffrey Biegel, and concludes with Dvorak’s sunny and tuneful Eighth Symphony
