Five student organizations won study rooms in Lamson Library on Thursday, Sept. 8th. The winners were named at the library’s Welcome Back to Lamson open house, which ran from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event culminated with the study room lottery, but passing students were especially enthusiastic about Lamson’s relief from the heat. “[Lamson] is cool in every way you can imagine,” said Robin DeRosa, Director of Learning and Libraries at Plymouth State.

Five student organizations were randomly selected from a pool of more than 60 to win their own study rooms on the main floor of Lamson. The winning organizations were: Girls Not Acting Right, Geography Club, Latine Student Union, Astronomy Club, and business-affiliated majors and organizations. Winners will be contacted via email.

“We are so pleased to welcome our new members to Lamson,” said DeRosa to a small audience of librarians and professors. “Sometimes you want to hang out and build community in your organization, and the study rooms could be a good place for that,” she said. “Bring your ideas and your passions over to Lamson… this is a great building that we can use pretty creatively.”

Attendees were also encouraged to take stickers and enter a raffle for 10 Panther Bucks, from which two winners will be drawn.

The library offered bottled water and iced coffee during the open house, a welcome surprise for students, who mostly seemed unaware of the event when they arrived. Still, with friendly faces, DeRosa and Outreach Librarian Anne Jung-Mathews greeted accidental attendees.

“This is your library,” DeRosa said. “Think creatively about what libraries could mean to students… We really want to be a place that says yes to great student ideas.”

The study room lottery runs every semester. Five new organizations will be chosen in spring. The study rooms on the upper level of Lamson remain open for all students.
