All the ‘herstory’ making moments at the 66th Grammys

Last night was the Grammys and the women of the music industry cleaned house! From Taylor Swift to Miley Cyrus, female artists take home the biggest awards of the night including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, and many more. The Grammys should really just be called the Girlmmys at this point.  

To say a lot happened is an understatement. So being the huge swiftie that I am, let’s start with the biggest news of the night: Taylor’s new album announcement! I will be completely honest, I knew something was going to happen but a new album? It took me by surprise. There were clues all day long that something was done down at the award show. Early Sunday morning, Taylor changed her profile picture on all her social media platforms to a black and white photo. This, of course, sent all swifties into a frenzy and discussed what it could mean. Collectively we agreed it could mean only one thing: “Reputation (Taylor’s Version).” 

A couple of hours before the Grammys began, her website went down and was replaced with a black screen with “error” across it. That just added to the anticipation of her re-recorded album being announced.

Taylor’s first award of the night was Best Pop Vocal Album for “Midnights”. During her acceptance speech, she said this was her thirteenth Grammy win and thanked the fans by announcing her eleventh studio album “The Tortured Poets Department”. The album’s release date is April 19th, 2024. Seismic activity was reported as every Swiftie collapsed to the floor. 

Taylor ended the award show by winning the biggest award of the night: Album of the Year. This is her fourth time winning this award and she became the first artist to win this category four times. What a night to be a swiftie!

Last night was a career-changing evening for Miley Cyrus, winning her first AND second Grammy. Her first award of the evening was Best Pop Solo Performance for “Flowers”. After winning, Cyrus performed the smash hit proudly on the Grammy stage. Her second Grammy: Record of the Year for “Flowers.” 

Miley’s fellow performer Billie Eilish also had an impactful night. Before singing “What Was I Made For?” on stage, Billie won Song of the Year for the “Barbie” anthem. While accepting the award, Eilish had tears in her eyes and expressed how much the award meant to her, the film, and girls all around the world. 

The Grammys was the night for strong women, winning awards back-to-back in a male-dominated industry. For every one step a man takes, a woman has to take ten. The powerful women who won last night and the ones who were nominated deserve the entire world. The 66th Grammys was a great night to be a proud woman.
