PACS Skate Night rolls out Spring Fling programming. Performer yet to be announced

Plymouth Staters celebrated the start of Spring Saturday night with the annual Spring Fling kickoff event. While no announcements about the artist were made, the Plymouth Activities Council for Students hosted Skate Night in the HUB Courtroom for Panthers to live out their roller derby dreams and score their Spring Fling ticket.

Students enjoyed free skate rentals, a DJ set, and snacks catered by PSU. Entertainment company Party Vision provided the rentals, lighting, and a floor to skate on. It’s been a long winter, and PACs has been working hard to organize Spring Fling events including the much-anticipated concert. Molly McAllister ‘24 of PACS said her favorite part of planning campus events is seeing everyone happy. “I love Spring Fling,” she said. 

Although having the event during Easter weekend resulted in a small turnout, the students in attendance were enthusiastic. Students showed up solo and in groups, many dressing up for the occasion. Free items such as striped tube socks, PACS pins, and inflatable air guitars were popular with first-year students. “Events like these are important for students’ mental health, to escape and have fun,” said Ramsey Colby ‘27. 

DJ and WPCR General Manager, Jonah Rosenberg, described the vibe for the playlist as “high energy”. He played a mix of new and old pop hits featuring artists like Ke$ha, Grouplove, and Olivia Rodrigo. “The music was good, it made me wanna dance even if I lost my balance,” said Rin Cloutier ‘25. Other students were hoping for disco to complement the colorful floor and eighties-esque lighting. 

Students looking to pick up speed had to be cautious or weave between people. Although it took place in the HUB courtroom, the mat covered only about a quarter of the space which made for traffic jams with inexperienced skaters. Jared Cullen ‘24 said a larger floor would have been better to accommodate all skill levels. But added, “The lights were cool”. 

PACs will be tabling in the HUB causeway throughout April for students to purchase tickets and get more details about the concert. While there is no hard date on when we will know who is performing tickets are also on sale now. The show will be opened by a student band that will be selected at Apri 13’s Battle of the Bands.
