This past Saturday 4/20, The Student Art Collective and Common Ground hosted their annual Earth Jam to support local artists and musicians to spread awareness for Earth Month. The sun made an appearance, though we had our fair share of April showers on the beautiful day that included 75 vendors, 6 live bands, and 5 sponsors on Mary Lyon Lawn.

Earth Jam has been an annual event for the past 4 years since its resurgence from COVID-19. It’s an event that brings artists from everywhere, together and shows off that strong aspect of community PSU prides itself on. It was a beautiful spring-ish day here on campus, with smiling faces, good music, and some fun smells.

This event was headlined by some awesome bands including Sneaky Miles, Groove Outlaws, and Girl Scout Cookies, which is a group of PSU Alumni; very cool! It didn’t matter the set, good music and vibes were flowing through the air all day.

Ursula Hoyt ‘21 of Simpli Mad spoke of reconnecting with previous customers, gaining new ones, and sharing her passion with the community. Hoyt said it’s an amazing opportunity to have fun while working and noted that although the turnout this year was crazy, business did not beat last year’s sales.

Tim Gerard ‘25, who worked with the event Coordinator Emily Roy ‘24 in The Student Art Collective to put on Earth Jam, noted that the guest turnout this past Saturday was better than previous years and it was worth it to see everyone enjoying themselves throughout the day.

Roy wanted to go out with a bang this year, making this her best Earth Jam yet. It’s clear that her efforts were successful with the high turn out. It was a lot of fun supporting local businesses and even with $ -2.63 in the bank now, the day was absolutely worth the venture out.
