With Halloween right around the corner, here are my top five horror movie picks to get you into the spooky spirit. These films range from truly nauseating to a more campy feel, so watch at your own discretion, if you dare. These movies can all be found on streaming services such as Netflix, Max, Hulu, and Amazon Prime.

“Pearl” – A harrowing film about a girl who longs for nothing but to get off her family’s farm and become a star, but what is she willing to do to achieve her dreams? Follow Mia Goth as Pearl in this thrilling slasher film.

“Bodies, Bodies, Bodies” – For those looking for more of a hokey horror film, this may be the watch for you. The movie takes place in a mansion, where a group of friends are watching a storm when David, played by Pete Davidson, is suddenly murdered. Another slasher film with an amazing plot twist you’ll never guess.

“Terrifier” – Notorious for being as gory as possible while still being allowed to be shown in theaters, “Terrifier” truly lives up to its title. Follow Art the Clown as he gruesomely and viciously murders his victims one by one. Known for making people vomit in the theaters, be sure to watch on an empty stomach.

“Midsommar” – If you’re looking for more of a psychological thriller, then “Midsommar” may be the pick for you. A young couple, Dani (played by Florence Pugh) and Christian travel to a remote Swedish village to partake in the midsummer festival, however chaos ensues as the couple slowly realizes they are at the hands of a violent pagan cult.

“Scream” – Lastly, my personal favorite, the entire Scream franchise. A slasher with heavy comedic elements, “Scream” does an amazing job at poking fun at the rest of the genre. Watch as Ghostface picks off his high school victims in middle class suburbia one by one.
