“Cabinet of Curiosities” is a horror, thriller show that has non-concurring episodes. We are given eight short stories by Guillermo Del Toro, alongside other directors, to portray their nightmares in different tones and themes. Each episode contains the dark, twisted ideas of many great horror filmmakers. In the intro to each episode, Del Toro presents a cursed object out of the cabinet. Throughout the episodes, you are put in the story alongside these cursed objects. Each tale has its own unique turn of events and elements of horror that depict real-life nightmares.

As someone who enjoys a good horror film, I was excited to hear about this show and was not let down, I enjoy the twisted minds of these filmmakers. I enjoyed this show, the rollercoaster of emotions I had while watching ranged from confusion, realization, goosebumps, and ended with me asking “what did I just watch?” Each story makes you think more in-depth about the different plots and leaves you left with thoughts regarding different aspects of the stories. Del Toro, alongside an amazing cast of familiar faces like Andrew Lincoln, Rupert Grint, Sophia Boutella, and Crispin Glover, articulates the right dialogues and emotions to help portray each story’s invigorating plot that keeps the audience on their toes.

Del Toro is known for his work on “Pan’s Labyrinth”, and “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” along with other renowned movies and shows. The work of Guillermo Navarro, (The Devil’s Backbone) Jennifer Kent, (The Babadook) David Prior, (The Empty Man) Ana Lily Amirpour, (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night) Catherine Hardwicke, (Red Riding Hood 2011) Vincenzo Natali, (Cube) Keith Thomas, (The Vigil) and Panos Cosmatos (Mandy) help create an atmosphere of Del Toro’s style without losing their own individual artistic vibe. People who enjoyed shows such as Black Mirror, and Love, Death, and Robots will love the unique style of this show, and its themes. To watch this stirring show, it can be found on Netflix.
