Saturday, The Plymouth State Panthers welcomed Rhode Island College Anchormen to campus. The Panthers came in with a subpar record of 6-14 overall and 2-9 in the Little Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, the Anchormen came in at 13-8 overall and 6-6 in the Little Eastern Conference.

The first half got underway and the Anchormen had excellent ball movement, but the Panther’s defense was unstoppable flying around like angry bees.

Kyler Bosse torched the Anchormen’s defense early with eight points in the first forcing RIC into a timeout to make adjustments. The Panthers did an excellent job of pushing the ball for fast break transitions.

RIC only accumulated just three points in the first twelve minutes from poor shooting performance. RIC was able to score a couple of points late in the quarter but the Panthers were up 28-16 going into the second half.

Bosse started off the second half right where he’d left off, scoring eight quick points. Christian Barr was outstanding from the defensive side but also from the three-point shooting as he accounted for six of his ten points made on two threes.

Things got a little chippy when Bosse got tangled up with a RIC player but luckily the referees were able to stop it from escalating. Bosse’s jersey seemed to get ripped from the little altercation.

Around the four-minute mark, the Panthers took out their starters because of their domination on the scoreboard so this allowed getting the younger players some minutes.

The Panthers won the game with a final score of 70-48.

“It was definitely a team effort,” Shared Barr, “From doubling the big guy in the post and everybody rotating off that. A huge part of our defensive success came from the spark of the freshman and the fact that we boxed out and grabbed rebounds so they didn’t have any second-chance points. Communication and energy won us that game.”

Coming up the Panthers will welcome Vermont State University to campus on Wednesday, February 7th at 7:30 pm. As for the RIC Anchormen, they will host Western Connecticut State on Wednesday, February 7th for a 7:30 pm tip-off.
