Dr. Kendall joined the faculty at Plymouth State University in the fall of 2017. She has over 15 years of experience in post-secondary education, including Physical Therapy (both at the DPT and PTA level), Education, and other healthcare professional programs. She also has over 30 years of experience in clinical practice as a licensed physical therapist, in a variety of practice settings and with a variety of patient populations. Her most recent clinical focus is in pediatrics and she was a certified Pediatric Clinical Specialist. She was also a Certified Adapted Physical Educator, Advanced Certified Clinical Instructor and has completed Level 1 training in Hippotherapy.
Dr. Kendall received her BS in Physical Therapy from California State University Long Beach, in 1989, her MS in Zoology (Developmental Neurophysiology) from University of Idaho in 1993, and a PhD in Education (Adult Education & Organizational Learning) in 2009, also from University of Idaho. She has taught courses in patient management (pediatric and neurologic), genetics for healthcare, pathophysiology, kinesiology/biomechanics, research in healthcare, anatomy/physiology, neuroanatomy, learning styles, instructional strategies, and basic biology.
Her clinical interest is in wellness for the pediatric patient. This involves both meeting the fitness needs of children with physical challenges as well as movement assessment for children who are typically developing but overweight/obese. Her current research interests focus around outcome measures and scope of practice guidelines for extreme obesity, engagement of children in physical activities, organizational approach to wellness, and physical therapy role in motivational and lifestyle intervention. She also has an educational research interest in content delivery methods, experiential learning, and organization of pediatric material.
Dr. Kendall is very involved with the professional association. She has been a member of the APTA since 1987. She is a member of the board for the NH APTA, and has spearheaded the journal club for the chapter. She has served as the Chapter Research Liaison and Pediatric Section Representative for the Idaho Chapter. She is also involved in the Academy of Pediatrics, participated in the Pediatrics Education Summit II, was a writer/facilitator for the Team Based Learning session at the Annual Conference, was the chair for the Task Force on Pediatric Content Delivery for the Academic and Clinical Educator’s Special Interest Group, and is part of the team investigating Experiential Learning in Pediatric PT Delivery. She has participated in many pro bono opportunities in pediatric physical therapy including Funfitness with Special Olympics, screening programs for Headstart and Shriner’s, and served on the board of directors for a municipal Specialized Needs Recreation program. She is a member of the therapy team for Uryadi’s Village, an orphanage for children with disabilities in Soddo, Ethipoia.
She also has extensive experience in volunteer work within the community at large. She has developed a number of children’s fitness events, programs, and camps, focused around outdoor and multi-sport activities. She founded and served as CEO of a 501(c)3, to support those entities. She served as the race director for a major marathon running event and served on the Mayor’s advisory committee for events as part of a human rights focus. Personal activities include: whitewater rafting, triathlon, snowboarding, SCUBA, sweep rowing, outrigger paddling, and hiking with her dog, Bouncer.
