Juniors and seniors in the criminal justice program in excellent academic standing can do an internship to gain valuable experience in the field. Past internship sites have included the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office and the Connecticut US Marshals Office.
Internships are offered during the fall, Winterim, spring, and summer semesters. Students with a 3.0 GPA are given preference; students with a GPA below 3.0 who demonstrate motivation, integrity, and self-discipline will be given consideration.
Internships are a great opportunity for students to take classroom learning into the “real world” and gain valuable experience that may help you to secure a job in the future. But internships require a substantial amount of advance planning.
Deadlines
The final day to process internship forms for Spring and Winterim internships is December 1st; the deadline for summer and Fall internships is May 1st. HOWEVER, a substantial amount of advance planning is required prior to processing forms. Therefore, interested students must be in touch with Diana Falco well before these deadlines in order to begin identifying a placement and processing the paperwork.

Course Description:
CJ 4580 – Internship in Criminal Justice (1-15 credits):
An opportunity to learn while gaining relevant work experience in a host organization. The primary objective is to expand the student’s depth of understanding by integrating acquired principles within the context of an operating organization. Students observe and participate in activities to gain experience and an understanding of the role of the institution and its contribution to the overall criminal justice effort. The experience contributes to personal and professional development and an enhancement of self confidence and maturity. The internship is a supervised assignment with planned objectives and a prescribed number of working hours for which academic credit is earned. Internships are arranged to meet the specific goals of the student and are reserved for the student who has demonstrated self-discipline, motivation, and academic success. Open to juniors and seniors who have completed the appropriate courses to justify the position. May be repeated up to a maximum of 15 credits. Arranged. Prerequisite(s): (Junior or Senior status) and permission of the faculty supervisor.
