Federal Financial Aid
As a veteran, future military personnel, active duty personnel, or a family member of a veteran or active duty personnel, you may qualify for Federal Financial Aid or financial aid benefits not otherwise available. Federal Pell Grant
If your parent or guardian was a member of the U.S. armed forces and died as a result of military service performed in Iraq or Afghanistan after the events of 9/11, you may be eligible for additional Federal Pell Grant funds if, at the time of your parent’s or guardian’s death, you were:
- less than 24 years of age or
- enrolled in college or career school at least part-time.
The Secretaries of Defense and Veterans Affairs should provide the Secretary of Education with the information necessary to determine which students meet the requirement. Because the question is not on the FAFSA, students will need to notify the Financial Aid team concerning their eligibility for this additional benefit.

Beginning with the 2010-11 award year, a student who is not eligible for a Pell Grant but whose parent or guardian was a member of the U.S. Armed Forces and died as a result of service performed in Iraq or Afghanistan after September 11, 2001, may be eligible to receive the Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant.
